About to embark on a trip to the other side of the world.
I'm all about making music, films, beer and photos.

Web designer for hire

I’m pimping myself out! Whilst I’m travelling I could do with a few extra quid, so if you or anyone you know would like a clean, professional website designing please contact me.

I build mainly in Wordpress, although I’m familiar with a few other CMSs if you have a personal favourite. I will take your site from initial mock up designs right through to a working, all-singing and dancing website that will blow everyone away. Oh yes!

Or, if you just need a tweak to your existing site I can do that too, as well as logo or banner design and even Tumblr theming! You name it.

For examples of my work and a contact form to get in touch please visit my website: www.alanquirk.com. You can also ‘ask’ me on here, although please provide an email address as I don’t want to answer publicly.

Obviously building a website is pretty time consuming, but I’d like to reach completion as quickly as possible, especially so you can show all your friends and family your awesome new site!

That’s the end of the pimping, let me know if I can help.

Alan.

My homework assignment for Intro to Seq, making a comic based on a scene from a movie in the style of a famous cartoonist.
The movie is Inception, the artist is Bryan Lee O’malley (Scott Pilgrim).

I had a ton of fun with this assignment. I’ve been looking forward to it all quarter, really, lol. Kinda got distracted in drawing all the characters in his style. I still need to draw Robert Fischer and Mal in the style. I’ll get to that after school stops eating me eventually. :D

i have to reblog this because it’s sooooo cool and really well done and i am obsessed with Inception. my only crit would be that you haven’t really gone below head & shoulders in two whole pages …. oh, and the word balloons would bleed off page (at the top), which is a no-no :0

This is very, very cool.

Another month?

Wow, seriously? I can’t believe it’s been another month since I wrote that last post; I thought “damn it’s been a week or two since I wrote that, better post something up”, but no. A month.

So I’ve been in Australia for two months now, and it’s pretty fun. I have to get a job though, which sucks. For anyone thinking of coming here just be aware Australia is stupidly expensive. I’ve done some interesting things since I’ve been here; rode a tractor, spotted kangaroos and possums, driven in a city (horrible, and I still have to do it most days) and probably numerous other things I can’t think of. It’s hard to remember, most of my time has been a blur.

Right now though I’m living in Brisbane. Having never lived in a city before it’s all a bit overwhelming, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it. We’re going grocery shopping tonight and getting take away for tea. And beer. Delicious antipodean beer.

Away for a month

I can’t believe it’s only been just under a month since I arrived in Australia, it feels like I’ve been here for months! I’m going to write a decent sized post about my exploits so far, but for now some highlights include: Aus craft beer is awesome; the middle of nowhere really is the middle of nowhere; eating freshly slaughtered pig is delicious. There’s plenty more where that came from but right now I’m just trying to secure the job I’m aiming for over here, hopefully I should be getting a call any day now (famous last words).

I have a bunch of cool photos too, like of me driving a tractor!

When I have some more time and I’m a bit better settled I’ll write the whole damn thing out. Now I can’t go back on my word…

I was sorting through my drawers at work (sad times) and came across the original sketch for the Willstock 2008 t-shirt design.

Cool interview with Adam Berry from Pauly Fistfight. I built his website don’t you know.

damnedmag:

Adam Berry is a successful and talented artist who hails from The Isle of Man, he has work ranging from the George W. Bush clown on NOFX’s album “War On Errorism” to characters designed for corporate advertising to a Manx flag collage of T.T. riders. He really comes into his own with his illustration, drawing influence from many different artists and making it his own.

One of his pieces has even found it’s way into a British National vault and sits proudly alongside some of the greatest paintings ever to be produced. All in all, this is one artist you should really know about.

I’ve known Adam for a few years and I’ve seen his work change, grow and mature. I can easily say, he is one of the hardest working and self motivated individuals I know, and he’s been kind enough to answer a few questions so you can know a little more about the man behind the canvas…

(Pauly for) DAMNED: So, Adam, why did you start drawing in the first place?

Adam: I have no idea why I started drawing to be honest, I enjoy it so that’s why I keep doing it.

DAMNED: What inspires you to draw?

Adam: Loads of things inspire me to draw - songs, things people say, an expression someone gives… There’s so much access to art these days that you can find inspiration anywhere!

DAMNED: What would you consider to be your greatest achievement in regards to your art?

Adam: I guess my ‘greatest achievement’ is being able to do it for a living. The fact that someone has the slightest interest at all in what I’m doing is amazing to me!

DAMNED: If you could give any advice to yourself 10 years ago, knowing what you know now, what would it be?

Adam: I’d just finished college 10 years ago and I was starting off doing this independently, so i had no idea what to expect. The best advice though, I think, is always to work hard. Anyone working for themself will know this so I suppose I would have screamed this at myself to make sure it went in.

DAMNED: Out of your work, what are your 3 favourite pieces and why?

Adam: I normally hate most of my pieces when I finish them because I spend so long on each one I’m sick of the sight of them by the time they’re finished!!

DAMNED: Who are your favourite artists?

Adam: Man, I have loads of favourite artists! I love totally different styles of artwork too so there’s a whole mix of artists that inspire me. The main ones are Herakut, Tex Avery, Alphonse Mucha, Print Mafia, Archibald Knox, Ames Bros, Charlie Harper, Faile… and a shed load more!

DAMNED: Do you have any advice for any aspiring artists out there?

Adam: If I was ever to give any advice to aspiring artists it would be the same as above I reckon, just work hard and do your own thing.

You can view and purchase a large selection of Adam’s work at www.adamberry.net

go on, treat yourself.

These guys are getting ready to run again. I nearly got run over in my car by a tram once. It was an awkward corner and I rolled onto the tracks before I spotted a tram in my blind side coming right at me. Thankfully there was no-one behind me so I reversed back up. Scary times.
